More from La Boca

Houses made of corrugated iron, when the port was first built there - hot as Hades in the summer, filled with immigrants from different countries cooking in communal kitchens and several dozen people to a room

but around the corner in the gallery

some interesting art

This and this

First you get this - stickers for hookers

...then you get a singing nun

You get  some consideration for the eco system of the world - bamboo bikes

...then you don't

Local jewels

There is this jewellery shop in Palermo called 'Anika' which sells an eclectic mix from many different jewellers. Mostly not high end, but very stylish. A lot of sterling silver and some wonderful fabric pieces, a few of which had to come home with me...

A night at the ballet

Sounds like a sequel to a Marx brothers film!
No  - a beautiful building - El Teatro Colon

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teatro_Col%C3%B3n

We went to see Bizet's 'Carmen'

The evening performance was not conducive to good photos but we had been there on the previous afternoon for a tour, so these give you an idea of the quality of the building

The new curtain - wonderful

As to the performance: out of ten?

Ochestra 9
Dancers 7
Set 2
Choreography 4
Lighting 2

Again it seems to point to the fact that BA is strapped for cash. This is just a local company doing their best. In its heyday they could afford to bring in the best in all categories - today it limps along with what they can afford. We had reasonable seats and they were only AUS$20 each - I guess that locals cannot afford to pay over the odds. There are a lot of loyal followers that go to practically everything they put on - some dressed in mink and others in jeans. A sign of the times

All the same, we did enjoy ourselves. It was privilege to see a performance in that building and to admire the wonderful decoration and style of a past era, beautifully maintained
