Alpaca Necklace

DM bought me this beautiful necklace. The frames are packed with designs crafted out of Alpaca wool, made by a local artist in Buenos Aires

Recoleta graveyard

We spent yesterday afternoon in the graveyard in Recoleta, one of the posher neighbourhoods. It was peaceful although it is right in the middle of the city and rather sad, as many of the tombs are obviously not loved. It makes one wonder what happened to the families - extinction, living elsewhere, no money left (it certainly took loads of money to build these things), apathy - or are they now an anachronism in today's busy life.

First meal

Well, we asked for a chicken sandwich and this is what turned up

Will have to consult the dictionary a bit more I think - and walk even more

We went to the Home Hotel, on Willy and Jo's recommendation and got lots of advice on BA from Tom and Patricia. Wonderful boutique hotel in Palermo and this is in their garden

I presume the tree is native - but forgot to ask what it was. There is a lot of Guerilla Crochet in this town - not knitting, just crochet, but this is beautifully done and seemed to me just right in this location.

This one was pretty good too - it may by the same person as it was close by, but the style is different

Sort of aboriginal in a woolly/quilty kind of way. Can I say that? Well I just did

Following winter

The weather in Buenos Aires is fairly similar to Hobart - one reason why we are here. In fact we are having just one month of summer in August; if Jersey decides those are the weeks in which the dubious British summer will occur. Then on to Prague for autumn, Paris for winter.
Bring on the gloves, boots and fur coats.

Discombobulated

They say that moving house is the third most stressful event in one's life. Having done it eighteen times with DM - or mostly without DM due to the siren's call of the film industry, one would think that it would be easier.
It never is.
Hence the discombobulation that both DM and myself are feeling at the moment. This is the first time that we have not had a house to live in since 1974.

A psychologist would have a few words to say about that + the multiples of our possessions in storage + a new language + a new country + I am missing my cat.

It has taken us 'til today to start to settle. Mind you the fact that DM ruined his best walking shoes in the garden before we left, created the need to find an Ecco shop in BA toute suite. That did not happen...and for those of you that like Colorado goods and are planning to travel here - the store that is listed as a stockist does not have one item of Colorado. Anyway - we have a brand new pair of walking boots for DM and are now eagerly awaiting the only other thing lacking in his life - a new charger for his new Leica camera, which unfortunately the removalists secreted somewhere in our last container.

Dear Valerie in New York is jetting one to us as I write. There appears to be nary a Leica in the town - let alone a charger.

So what do all girls do when stressed - look for a cake shop
...and here it is

The last few days we have been walking around getting to know our neighbourhood of Palermo. It ranges between posh and seedy, manic and calm, noisy and quiet, architecturally gorgeous to bloody awful - like most big cities of 6 million people, really.

We found a lovely deli/store which is a bit like Hill Street for the Hobartians, billed as a Dean and Deluca for the NY people (but not really)

So our time so far has taken up with walking and eating and that can't be all bad!

Plus I found a Tupperware shop

What more could one want!

Well...perhaps a shoes and matching handbag shop

The Frog Blog in Buenos Aires

After a long hiatus the Frog Blog is on the move again.

We have just sold our beautiful house

...and agisted our beautiful cat

...but he seems very happy and is being spoilt rotten. The dwarf bamboo in Brisbane looks as though it is getting quite a beating.

SO - after many weeks of quite hard work packing, storing and moving potted plants, with lots of help from generous friends, we have travelled to Buenos Aires and plan to be here for two months. Then onwards to Europe until we get fed up. (Actually how could anyone get fed up with Europe?)

Feel free to become a follower and leave as many comments as you like, as you are bombarded with DM's photos - and a few of mine. Bet you can't tell the difference Ha Ha!
